Wrocław is the largest city in western Poland. It has a population of 630,000, and its inhabitants are actively involved in the life of the capital of Lower Silesia. Thanks to its people and its unique location, Wrocław is the cultural, academic, and economic hub for the entire region.
Wrocław's historical center is surrounded by parks, excellent restaurants, cafes and charming hotels. The veritable maze of islands and bridges, made the city gain the title of "Venice of Poland"
. Its theaters, clubs, museums, galleries and musical festivals provide a continuous series of artistic events. Internationally acknowledged musical festivals have become the city's cultural landmark.
Traces of various cultures are mixed up in the architecture of its buildings to create one of the most interesting cities in Poland, where past and present interweave with each other on every street.
The earliest knowledge we have of Wrocław dates to the ninth century, when a Slavic tribe made a fort here. The tribe was soon mopped up by the Czechs, whose legendary ruler Vratislav provided the origins for the city's name.
There are plenty of attractions in Wrocław, amongst the fascinating architecture, rivers and bridges we may visit the Centennial Hall, historic building constructed in 1911-1913 according to architect Max Berg plans and the Racławice Panorama, a large canvas painting creating a 360º view of the polish victory in the Battle of Racławice -1794- between Russian troops and Polish insurrectionists.
The religious presence in Wrocław is reflected in some beautiful constructions like the Cathedral of St. John, the Baptist St. Elizabeth's Church or even the Synagogue "Under the White Stork" testifying the not continuous but ancient Jewish presence.
For nature lovers Wrocław gives a lot of choices: the colorful and large Park Szczytnicki, the Eastern Park or Ostrow Tumski, which is the oldest part of the city consisting in a group of islands on the Oder River with beautiful and ancient buildings.

Climate
The weather is influenced by both a continental and a maritime climate making it changeable from day to day. Snow is not always present during Winter, and Summers are usually warm and sunny. July and August are the hottest months with an average temperature of 19,9º. The mean annual temperature is 9.8 °C (50 °F) being the coldest in January around -0.5º. Precipitation occurs during all year being Summer months the wettest. The average range of hours of sunshine in Wrocław is between 1.3 hours per day in December and 7.7 hours per day in June.
